Wooden statue of Yakushi Nyorai
Wooden statue of Yakushi Nyorai (the Medicine Buddha), in a standing position This wooden standing statue of Yakushi Nyorai was made in 1253. This ancient Buddhist image, covered with gold leaf over Japanese lacquer, with inset crystal eyes, has a boat-shaped halo. An inscription in the lower part of the rear of the figure reveals that this statue was made at the express wish of Tokitomo Kasama. It has been designated an important cultural property by the Japanese government.
