Inada Shrine
Japan Heritage/Architecture/Shrine/Temple
Legend holds that the Inada Shrine was erected by Niihari Kokuzo, who governed the western Hitachi Province (now Ibaraki Prefecture) before the late seventh century, when a centralized government was established in Japan. Kushinadahime (the goddess of rice fields) is the deity enshrined within it. During the mid-Kamakura period (1185 - 1333), Tokitomo Kasama and his son Tomokage held a waka poetry gathering at this shrine, with such famous poets of that period as Mitsutoshi Fujiwara and Yasutsuna Utsunomiya, as participants in the party.
