Japan Heritage/Architecture/Shrine/Temple
The Sansho Shrine was established by Tokitomo Kasama in 1250. This is the head tutelary shrine of the Kasama district and has the intended purpose of protecting Kasama Castle. Kasama Castle had been the residence of successive lords of the Kasama clan for about 750 years, from the time it was constructed by Tokitomo Kasama in the Kamakura period (1185 - 1333). Remnants of the moats and castle stone walls are still in existence.
