Climbing kilns

Japan Heritage
These climbing kilns were originally constructed during the An-ei era (1772 - 1781) by the Han-uemon Kuno under the guidance of Chōemon, a potter from Shigaraki in Ohmi Province (now Shiga Prefecture). It is believed that the present two kilns were re-constructed on the basis of the original kilns around the early Meiji period (1868 - 1912). They have been designated tangible cultural properties by Kasama City.
