Dried tea leaf jar in flowing blue glaze
This jar has an application of a flowing glaze called namako-yu, one of the straw-ash glazes. Straw-ash glazes are made by using rice straw ash as the main raw material. They turn opaque when fired because they contain a lot of silicic acid which undergoes a chemical reaction. This dry-tea jar with flowing glaze was made during the late Edo period (1603 - 1868). It is in the possession of the Ibaraki Ceramic Art Museum.
