【A monument honoring the memory of the originator of Mashiko Pottery】
This stone monument was erected by local potters in 1875 in honor of Keizaburo Otsuka, who made great contributions to the development of Mashiko Pottery. Following the example of Kasama Pottery, his ceramics were chiefly intended for daily use, including teapots, plates, and bowls. The epigraph on the monument was written by Kato Rōou, a former clansman of the Kasama domain and a Confucian scholar.
